Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

Neck pain is common because the neck supports the heavy weight of the head while still allowing it to tilt, turn, and nod easily .Neck pain can come from a number of disorders and diseases of any structure in the neck.  Neck pain can be acute, meaning it lasts a few hours to a few weeks, or it can be chronic. Neck pain may occur slightly more frequently in women than in men.   Neck cervical osteoarthritis can cause pain and stiffness in your neck.  Joint disruption in the neck creates pain, as does joint disruption in the upper back.  Neck pain can occur from postural strain due to faulty sitting posture or excessive desk or computer work.  Neck pain is easily dealt with by a gentle rolling of the head to achieve a massaging of the neck muscles from the ridge of fingertips.

 Exercise

Regular exercise will also help to ease neck pain. Aim to keep your neck moving as normally as possible.  You can exercise regularly to improve your muscle tone and posture.

 Massage

Massage has a multitude of uses such as lower back pain relief as well as natural neck pain relief and overall muscle pain relief.  Massage therapists also need a reliable source of massage oils, lotions and creams.  Massage is helpful if you continue to have muscle spasms for more than one to two weeks.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture has been used as an alternative to more traditional treatments for body pain.  Acupuncture is a medical treatment that was developed in China thousands of years ago.  It may be beneficial for neck pain control and should be conducted by an appropriately trained and certified practitioner.
